From 2009 to 2011, he played Michael “Tea Leaf” Fry in the dark BBC comedy Psychoville.

Kaluuya starred as one of the key characters in “Fifteen Million Merits,” an episode of the anthology series Black Mirror, for which he gained significant critical acclaim. The episode first aired on Channel 4 in 2011, however, it quickly acquired popularity once it was made available on Netflix in the United States. Kaluuya authored his first play at the age of nine, following which he began doing improvisational theatre. As a kid, he began performing at the Anna Scher Theatre School and WAC Arts in his hometown.

Reece in the BBC’s controversial drama Shoot the Messenger was one of his early performances. Kaluuya then joined the original Skins cast as Posh Kenneth; he was also a contributing writer on the first two seasons of the show, as well as the lead writer of the “Jal” and “Thomas” episodes.

Following Skins, Kaluuya starred as a guest star in several notable television shows, including Silent Witness, Doctor Who’s “Planet of the Dead,” and Lewis.
