Prince Harry hates Megxit, says it is misogynistic
- By Author
Don’t talk to him about “Megxit”. Prince Harry denounced, Tuesday, November 9, the term coined by the British tabloids to name the decision of his wife, Meghan Markle, and himself, to leave royalty. The Duke of Sussex took part in a forum entitled “Internet, a machine of lies”, on disinformation and harassment on line, organized by the American magazine Wired. He said the term “Megxit was or is a misogynistic term originally created by a troll” and later used by the mainstream media, reports The Guardian.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle gave up their royal responsibilities in March 2020 and moved to live in the United States with their son Archie. Their daughter Lilibet Diana was born there last June. Quickly, the term “Megxit” was used to describe this exile. On social media, hater accounts also picked up on her a lot, adding racist comments against Meghan.
Harry refuses to let history repeat itself
Harry stood up for his wife, explaining that racist attacks were partly responsible for their decision to leave. He has also taken a more concrete stand against online harassment, fueled, he said, by the British tabloids’ disinformation campaign against his couple, and more specifically Meghan herself.
In the past, the Duke of Sussex has explained that he chose to leave to save Meghan and prevent a tragedy from happening, as happened to Lady Diana. On Tuesday, he insisted on this point: “I know this story all too well. I lost my mother to this self-made rage, and I am determined not to lose the mother of my children under the same circumstances. “
